Emma Posey recently received her BFA in Ceramics from West Virginia University. Although her pieces are fun and whimsical, her art takes inspiration from her difficult upbringing in Appalachia and the insecurities that came with it. The goal of her sculptures is not to bring to life the sadness of the past, but to act as an inspiration to let go of them, and through their humor, take away the heaviness of it all. To Emma, they serve as personal role models, but for others, she hopes that her sculptures serve as a safe space for them to laugh out loud, and to have a sense of belonging and comradery when in their presence.
