Hannah Jo McNemar is a 23-year-old multimedia artist from North Central West Virginia. She graduated from Fairmont State University with her Studio Art degree and minor in Biology in 2023. During her time in college, she focused primarily on 3D art, including ceramics and wood working, as well as other types of sculptural work. She also became interested in printmaking, and the many ways one can create a print. Many of her works contain themes revolving around mental health, trauma, sexuality, and healing. She has had many art pieces featured in her alma mater’s student art and literary journal, Whetstone. She has had art featured in exhibitions such as the Youth Art Month student exhibition, where she received an award, the Arts Alive Visual Arts Exhibition, and Fairmont State University’s 2023 Juried Student Exhibition. In 2023, she won an award from the Academy of Special Dreams and is featured on their website. Hannah Jo had her first solo art exhibition in April of this year, titled “It’s My Trauma and I’ll Cry if I Want To,” focused on healing and growing from trauma. Pieces from this exhibition can be seen on her Instagram account @appalachain_wild_child_art. She hopes to one day open her own art studio and sell her work as an independent artist. She thanks everyone for their support of her art as she continues to learn and grow as an artist, but also as a person.
