Maddie Moore (she/her) is an Appalachian artist attending and creating art at West Virginia University in Morgantown, West Virginia. Although she loves to create using many different mediums, she primarily works with oil paints and is studying painting at the university. Much of her work focuses on family, childhood memories, and traditions in Appalachia, and in her most recent works, she explores the ideas of memories, death, loved ones who have passed, and how the people and things we love continue to live on once they are gone, through the Appalachian tradition of quilting—a tradition passed down to her from her great-grandparents. She is interested in incorporating moments and memories with the people in her life into her work through pictures she has captured herself and through old family photos, immortalizing those relationships and moments in the form of a painting.
